World Reading Adventures

My hope is that my students will enjoy the adventures of reading about many different cultures and parts of the world. I want them to travel in imagination to many wonderful places, meeting people all over the world through the books they read.

When we read stories or articles that take us to particular places, we share what we read with the class, then place colored push-pins in the locations on the world map to identify the places in the world we have read about.

At the end of the 2007-2008 school year, our world map was filled with colorful push-pins, reminding us of all the exciting places we had visited, and all the peoples and cultures we had learned about. At the beginning of the 2008-2009 school year, we are starting with an empty map, and look forward to filling it up with our new reading adventures.

West Frederick has a wonderfully diverse population. Another part of this adventure project is to enjoy learning about far-away places where many of our students and their families have lived and traveled. Again, the students share their experiences with their classmates, and place push-pins on their home countries.
